SAW devices are used as filters, oscillators and transformers. Such devices are based on the transduction of acoustic waves. The transduction from electric energy to mechanical energy is accomplished by the use of piezoelectric materials.
Acoustic wave sensors are commercially available in several form factors. Most sensors begin as processed wafers that are then tested, diced and mounted into packages.
In the shear-horizontal acoustic plate mode (SH-APM) sensor, the waves travel between the top and bottom surface of the plate, allowing sensing on either side.
Application
Cellar phone, GPS, Radio control LAN, keyless entry system, optical communication amplifier module, PDA, transformer and touch screen(1) etc.
